Dare ga Yuusha o Koroshita ka (Promotional Comic)

The promotional comic for Dare ga Yuusha o Koroshita ka (Who Killed the Hero) was created by the artist Daken to generate buzz for the light novel series of the same name. Produced as a short-form marketing piece, it serves as a visual introduction to the series' dark fantasy premise, which centers on a detective-style investigation into the death of a hero in a world that has already moved on from his legacy. The comic utilizes a stark, atmospheric aesthetic to emphasize the cynical tone and investigative tension central to the source material.

The design focus for the comic was to capture the essence of the light novel's deconstruction of classic tropes. Daken aimed to balance the familiarity of the hero's journey with a cold, grounded reality, utilizing sharp lines and subdued coloring to distinguish this narrative from more traditional heroic fantasies. Within the Japanese light novel community, the promotional material was well-received for its ability to concisely establish a mood, effectively bridging the gap between standard fantasy readers and those seeking a more grim, character-driven mystery.
