Where it came from
Dear Diary is a foundational volume in the manga series created by the artist known as Thabfu, representing a specific era of slice-of-life storytelling that gained traction for its intimate approach to character development. The work was conceived to capture the nuanced, often unspoken emotions of adolescence, using a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the internal monologue of the protagonist rather than grand narrative stakes.
The design of the volume reflects a deliberate choice to mirror the format of a personal journal, a stylistic decision intended to draw the reader into a sense of proximity with the author's vision. Upon its release, the series was noted for its distinct visual rhythm and tonal consistency, eventually building a dedicated following that appreciated its departure from the more kinetic, action-oriented trends prevalent in the medium at the time.
