Where it came from
Demon Vice was written and illustrated by Kenji Takamura, emerging as a distinct title within the late-twentieth-century seinen manga landscape. The series fits into a tradition of dark, gritty narratives that explore the intersection of urban decay and supernatural themes, reflecting a period when Japanese manga saw a surge in mature, high-concept storytelling aimed at older demographics.
Takamura's design for the work relies on stark ink-work and high-contrast shading to emphasize the unsettling atmosphere of its premise. As a representative of its genre, it was received as a niche but stylistically consistent volume, appreciated by readers for its commitment to a bleak aesthetic and its specific vision of folkloric horror integrated into a contemporary setting.
