Where it came from
Digimon Dreamers was created by Hiroshi Izawa and serialized in Saikyō Jump beginning in 2021. The series was designed to serve as a companion piece to the Digivice-V and the Vital Bracelet digital pet ecosystem, blending traditional manga narrative with the contemporary focus on interactive, wearable gaming technology that Bandai was prioritizing at the time.
Izawa, a veteran of the Digimon franchise known for his work on Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01, sought to bridge the gap between the nostalgic roots of the franchise and the modern digital pet experience. The story centers on a protagonist named Gamu who discovers a digital monster in the real world, reflecting the franchise's long-standing theme of the intersection between digital data and human ambition. The work has been received as a faithful expansion of the Digimon multiverse, noted for its emphasis on the training and evolution mechanics central to the Vital Bracelet hardware.
