Directory of Trade and Industry ... in Hyogo Prefecture and City of Kobe

The Directory of Trade and Industry in Hyogo Prefecture and City of Kobe was produced during the mid-20th century as a functional reference tool intended to facilitate international commerce. Published during Japan's period of rapid economic recovery and industrial expansion, these volumes served as essential guides for foreign importers and local business owners to navigate the complex landscape of the Keihanshin industrial region. They provided granular data on manufacturers, exporters, and the specific commodities originating from the strategic port of Kobe.

The design of these directories reflects the pragmatic, utilitarian aesthetics common to corporate and government reference materials of the era. The layout focused on accessibility and categorization, likely compiled by chambers of commerce or regional trade bureaus to standardize business communication. While the authorship is often attributed to anonymous editorial boards within these institutions, the work is highly regarded by historians for its preservation of a pivotal era in Japanese industrialization and the evolution of the global supply chain.
