Where it came from
Dragon Quest Dai: Xross Blade - Days of the Dagger is a manga adaptation derived from the Dragon Quest universe, specifically tied to the arcade game Xross Blade. It was serialized to expand the lore surrounding the iconic characters from the Dai no Daibouken series, offering readers a bridge between the classic narrative and the mechanics of the collectible card game system.
The series was authored and illustrated by Hatano Aona, who approached the work with the intent of capturing the energetic, high-fantasy aesthetic signature to the Dragon Quest franchise. The manga was received by the fanbase as a complementary piece of media that provided deeper character beats for the protagonists, serving as a functional piece of promotional storytelling that remains grounded in the visual language established by Akira Toriyama's original character designs.
