Where it came from
Dream Saga is a shojo fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Megumi Tachikawa, originally serialized in Nakayoshi magazine starting in 1998. The series emerged during a period of significant growth for magical girl narratives, following Tachikawa's previous success with Saint Tail. The story follows a young girl named Yuuki who is transported to an alternate world, blending high-stakes action with the romantic tropes characteristic of late-nineties shojo manga.
Tachikawa’s design aesthetic for the series emphasizes fluid, expressive line work and ornate costume elements, which were intended to appeal to a demographic interested in both adventure and character-driven drama. The series was met with moderate critical success during its initial publication, praised for its imaginative world-building and the distinctive, clean art style that became a hallmark of Tachikawa's work in the industry.
