Where it came from
El Viento is a manga series created by the artist Yamane Kazutoshi, emerging during a period in the late 1980s and early 1990s when dark fantasy and action-oriented seinen manga were gaining significant traction in Japan. The work is characterized by Yamane's distinctively sharp, energetic linework and a focus on supernatural combat, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of a creator deeply influenced by the kinetic energy of animation and gritty cinematic storytelling.
The series centers on atmospheric tension and elaborate character designs that were intended to convey a sense of brooding mystery. While the narrative explores themes common to the genre at the time, such as hidden powers and existential conflicts, the visual execution remains its most enduring legacy. It was received as a niche but stylistically confident entry in the landscape of independent-leaning manga, appreciated by collectors for its commitment to a specific, moody visual identity that differentiates it from the mainstream shonen hits of the era.
