Where it came from
Electric Eel's Strategy was written by Tatsuya Sakurai, emerging from the specific landscape of experimental seinen manga. The series was conceived as a narrative exploration of survivalism and tactical human interaction, employing a distinct visual shorthand to mirror the biological nature of its titular subject. Sakurai focused on minimalist compositions to underscore the tension within the work, aiming to translate the predatory efficiency of an electric eel into the social maneuvers of his characters.
Upon its initial publication, the work gained a reputation among readers for its deliberate pacing and unconventional thematic structure. Critics of the time noted Sakurai’s departure from traditional genre tropes, highlighting the ways in which he utilized the medium of the volume to create a sense of mounting atmospheric pressure. It remains a notable entry in the creator's bibliography, valued by enthusiasts for its stylistic consistency and analytical approach to character motivation.
