F-ZERO Grade School

F-ZERO Grade School was a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yadaka Suzuo, serialised in the early 1990s within the pages of Kodansha’s Comic BomBom magazine. It emerged as a spin-off title designed to broaden the appeal of Nintendo’s high-speed futuristic racing franchise, F-ZERO, to a younger demographic. By leveraging the setting of the Super Nintendo title, the manga sought to bridge the gap between the game's intense, gravity-defying racing aesthetic and the lighthearted, episodic storytelling tropes common in children's comics of that era.

The series is noted for its creative departure from the stark, professional racing atmosphere of the original game, opting instead for a school-based narrative framework that places familiar characters in more relatable, day-to-day scenarios. While it was produced during a time when many video games received similar manga adaptations to drive brand engagement, F-ZERO Grade School is often remembered as a niche artifact of its period. It remains a curious piece of documentation regarding how Nintendo properties were translated into multi-media formats for Japanese youth markets during the 16-bit console generation.
