Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel] originated as the third and final narrative route of the original visual novel created by TYPE-MOON, released in 2004. Unlike the preceding routes, this version explores the darkest aspects of the series' internal mythology, focusing on the character Sakura Matou and the visceral consequences of the Holy Grail War. The story was eventually adapted into a trilogy of theatrical animated films produced by Ufotable, which began release in 2017.

The visual identity and narrative tone were shaped by the creative team at TYPE-MOON, led by Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi, who intended for this route to serve as the definitive, unflinching conclusion to the central conflict.
