Fighting-Spirit Production: How to Draw Manga

Released as part of the instructional series by the Fighting-Spirit Production group, this volume represents the surge in interest during the late 20th century regarding the technical craft of manga creation. It emerged from a period when professional mangaka began formalizing their techniques for an aspiring audience, aiming to demystify the labor-intensive processes of paneling, character design, and ink work that defined the era.

The volume features the guidance of Kobayashi Makoto, a creator known for his distinct comedic style and unconventional artistic approach. The design prioritizes practical application, reflecting a pedagogical style that seeks to bridge the gap between abstract creative vision and the tangible requirements of weekly serialization. It was received by readers as a candid look at the pragmatic challenges of the industry rather than a mere academic exercise in illustration.
