Where it came from
This doujinshi, titled 'Oboreru Sakana wa Yume wo Miru' (A Drowning Fish Dreams), is a fan-created work centered on the characters from Kyoto Animation’s 'Free!' series. It was authored and illustrated by the artist known as Nariko, a contributor to the vibrant doujin landscape that emerged following the anime's 2013 debut. Like many works within this community, it was produced independently to explore character dynamics and narrative arcs outside the scope of the official television production.
The publication reflects the stylistic trends of the 'Free!' fandom during the mid-2010s, focusing on the intimate emotional lives of the Iwatobi and Samezuka swim clubs. Nariko’s work is recognized for its careful attention to the original character designs while adapting them to the stylistic conventions of the doujin print market. It was primarily distributed at specialized events like Comiket, where such fan-produced media serves as both a creative outlet for artists and a collectible archive for enthusiasts of specific series.
