Where it came from
The Freezing series, written by Im Dal-Young and illustrated by Kim Kwang-Hyun, began serialization in 2007. The narrative occupies a science-fiction space, focusing on students training to defend humanity against extraterrestrial invaders. The colored editions were released to offer a revitalized aesthetic experience, leaning into the high-contrast, kinetic action sequences that defined the original black-and-white print run.
The artistic direction for these volumes emphasizes the vibrant, hyper-stylized character designs that are hallmarks of the series. By introducing a full color palette, the publishers aimed to modernize the visual storytelling and enhance the readability of the intense combat scenes. This version was generally received by the readership as a companion piece to the original run, serving as a collector-oriented update to the primary narrative.
