Futari wa Pretty Cure: Splash Star

Futari wa Pretty Cure: Splash Star was produced by Toei Animation as the third installment in the long-running Pretty Cure franchise, airing originally from 2006 to 2007. Created under the collective pseudonym Izumi Todo, the series was designed to explore a distinct thematic shift from the original duo by focusing on themes of nature and the balance of elements. The narrative centers on Saki Hyuga and Mai Misho, who are imbued with power by spirits from the Land of Fountains to defend their world against the dark forces of the Dark Fall.

The character designs were handled by Akira Inagami, who maintained the aesthetic continuity of the earlier seasons while introducing new motifs related to flowers and birds. Upon its release, the series was received as a bridge between the physical combat styles of the original series and the more experimental magical girl narratives that followed. It remains a notable entry in the franchise for its emphasis on the close, supportive bond between its two protagonists, solidifying the 'duo' dynamic that has become a recurring structural hallmark of the series.
