Future Diary, known in Japan as Mirai Nikki, was created by the mangaka Sakae Esuno and serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Shonen Ace magazine between 2006 and 2010. The narrative emerged from the popular psychological thriller and battle royale trends of the era, focusing on the character Yukiteru Amano, who finds his diary entries manifesting into reality as part of a high-stakes competition to determine the successor to a god. The series is distinguished by its dark, violent themes and the intricate psychological cat-and-mouse games driven by the character Yuno Gasai.

The visual design of the work reflects the intense, high-contrast aesthetic typical of late 2000s seinen and shonen manga, characterized by sharp linework and an emphasis on expressions that convey extreme instability.
