Where it came from
Ganso! Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku is a direct sequel series to Kenji Hamaoka’s long-running gag manga Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Champion in 1993. The series was launched in 2010 to continue the chaotic, slapstick adventures of Kotetsu Oosawagi and his eccentric family in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture. It maintains the hyper-kinetic, often irreverent style that defined Hamaoka’s original work, focusing on absurd physical humor and satirical portrayals of suburban life.
The design of the series relies on Hamaoka's distinctively grotesque character exaggerations and frantic panel layouts, which are intended to mirror the chaotic nature of the Oosawagi household. The series was well-received by fans of the original run, particularly for its refusal to temper the series' hallmark brand of gross-out comedy and chaotic energy, solidifying its place in the lineage of 1990s Japanese gag manga that successfully transitioned into the 2010s.
