Ghost Hunt

Ghost Hunt originated as a series of light novels penned by Fuyumi Ono, who is widely celebrated for her ability to weave unsettling supernatural atmospheres with character-driven narratives. The series, originally titled Akuryou, debuted in the late 1980s and transitioned into a manga adaptation illustrated by Shiho Inada in the late 1990s. This transformation brought a sharp, shoujo-influenced visual style to the investigative horror premise, effectively capturing the tension between the analytical, cynical nature of the paranormal researcher Naru and the intuitive, sensitive perspective of the protagonist, Mai Taniyama.

The series centers on a small psychical research agency tasked with investigating haunting phenomena, blending episodic ghost stories with a slow-burning overarching mystery. Inada’s illustrations were instrumental in translating Ono's prose into a medium where visual pacing could dictate the scares.
