Where it came from
Motto Love Love Sakusen desu! began serialization in 2013 as a spin-off to the popular Girls und Panzer franchise. Published in Monthly Comic Alive, the manga was created by Nii Maruko to offer a lighter, comedic look at the daily lives of the Oarai Girls Academy students. While the original anime focused on tactical tank combat, this series explores the interpersonal dynamics and humorous antics of the cast during their downtime, effectively expanding the franchise's world-building through a more casual, slice-of-life lens.
Nii Maruko’s design approach is characterized by soft, chibi-influenced character models that lean into the whimsical tone of the spin-off. By focusing on situational comedy and gag-based storytelling, the series was well-received by fans of the main anime who sought to see their favorite characters in more relaxed, humorous settings. It has maintained a steady presence in the franchise, serving as a popular companion piece that highlights the softer side of the Girls und Panzer brand.
