Where it came from
Goodbye Declaration originated as a light novel adaptation of the viral Vocaloid song by Chinozo, written by Mitsuki Midori. The project emerged from the burgeoning trend of translating internet-native music subcultures into narrative fiction, specifically capturing the melancholic, high-energy aesthetic that defined the song's popularity on platforms like YouTube and Niconico.
The volume features illustrations that lean heavily into the stylized, neon-inflected visual language established in the song's original music video. Mitsuki Midori’s adaptation was intended to expand the lyrical themes of detachment and transition into a cohesive character-driven story, which resonated with a younger demographic that had already fostered a deep emotional connection to the source material.
