Where it came from
Gugure! Shigaraki-san is a spin-off manga series authored by Midori Endou, derived from the original Gugure! Kokkuri-san manga. It was created to expand upon the character of Shigaraki, a tanuki spirit known for his idle, gambling, and alcohol-loving nature. The series focuses on his antics and interactions within the established supernatural world of the main franchise, providing a character-centric perspective that deepens the lore of the supporting cast.
The series maintains the comedic and slightly absurd aesthetic established by Midori Endou in the original work. In designing the spin-off, Endou leaned into the lighthearted, episodic storytelling that made the parent series popular, focusing on Shigaraki's distinct personality quirks. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the series who appreciated the dedicated exploration of a popular supporting character who serves as a chaotic foil to the more orderly Kokkuri-san.
