Where it came from
Haikyuubu!! is a spin-off manga series based on Haruichi Furudate's original sports epic, Haikyu!!. Published in the Shonen Jump+ digital platform, it was created by mangaka Miyajima Kyouhei to provide a comedic perspective on the daily lives of the various high school volleyball teams featured in the main narrative. The series functions as a lighthearted companion piece, intentionally moving away from the high-stakes match tension of the original to focus on gag-heavy slice-of-life vignettes.
The design of the series centers on a softened, chibi-influenced art style that emphasizes character interactions and slapstick humor. Miyajima Kyouhei sought to capture the quirky personality traits of the extended cast, allowing fans to see beloved rivals and teammates in lower-stakes, humorous scenarios. The work has been generally well-received by the existing Haikyu!! fanbase as a comforting, humorous extension of the world, filling the gaps between major tournament arcs with character-driven levity.
