Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, or Crawling with Love! Nyaruko-san, originated as a light novel series written by Manta Aisora and illustrated by Koin, first published in 2009. The series is a comedic pastiche that blends Lovecraftian horror mythology with the conventions of Japanese light novels, centering on a Nyarlathotep-inspired deity who takes the form of a silver-haired girl to protect an ordinary high school student. It emerged during a period of high popularity for otaku-culture-heavy light novels, utilizing frequent references to pop culture and geek subcultures as a primary source of humor.

The design of the series balances eldritch themes with the lighthearted tropes of a romantic comedy, a stylistic choice intended to subvert the gravity typically associated with H.P.
