Hanging! Kamesuke-kun

Hanging! Kamesuke-kun is a manga series created by Shintarou Mugiwara, a talented mangaka who served as a long-time assistant to Fujiko F. Fujio, the co-creator of the legendary Doraemon franchise. The series was published in the late 1990s within the pages of CoroCoro Comic, a monthly magazine tailored to young boys in Japan. It reflects the whimsical, gag-heavy spirit common to late-nineties children's manga, focusing on lighthearted humor and expressive character designs typical of the era's comic style.

The series centers on the titular character, Kamesuke-kun, whose primary trait involves hanging from various objects or positions, a conceit that Mugiwara used to drive slapstick scenarios and visual puns. As an artist, Mugiwara was deeply influenced by the storytelling structures of his mentor, and his work on this series showcases a similar commitment to approachable, rhythmic gag sequences. While it remains a niche title compared to the massive cultural footprint of Fujiko F. Fujio’s works, it is well-regarded by collectors of 1990s CoroCoro manga for its earnest execution and its representation of the period's distinct comedic voice.
