Where it came from
Haru-chan: Kochi Prefecture/Kurei Edition is a promotional manga volume produced by Aoyagi Production as part of a public relations campaign for Kochi Prefecture. Created to boost tourism and highlight the local culture of the Kurei area, the work utilizes the medium of manga to present geographical information and cultural landmarks in an accessible, character-driven format for both residents and visitors.
The design of Haru-chan reflects the aesthetic typical of regional promotional media in Japan, focusing on a mascot-style protagonist intended to build a sympathetic and memorable brand identity for the prefecture. While the work is relatively obscure outside of its specific regional context, it serves as a distinct example of the widespread Japanese trend of employing manga as a tool for regional revitalization and educational outreach.
