Where it came from
Hatsukoi Hajimemashita. is a shojo manga series created by the mangaka Yamada Daisy, serialized within the pages of Ribon magazine. Published by Shueisha, the series fits squarely into the classic mold of Japanese school-life romance, focusing on the emotional landscape of adolescence and the tentative steps taken toward first love. The work is characterized by its lighthearted narrative tone and the distinctive, delicate character designs that defined Daisy’s contribution to the magazine’s late 2000s and early 2010s aesthetic.
The narrative follows the typical conventions of the genre, prioritizing the internal monologue and social development of its teenage protagonists. Yamada Daisy’s approach to the material was to emphasize the sweetness and uncertainty inherent in early relationships, resonating with the target demographic of young female readers. Upon its compilation into tankobon volumes, the series was received as a gentle, heartfelt contribution to the shojo canon, praised primarily for its clean artistic execution and its reliable adherence to the romantic tropes that readers of Ribon sought during that era.
