Where it came from
Hello World, written by Mado Nozaki, originated as a tie-in novelization to the 2019 original anime feature film of the same name directed by Tomohiko Ito. The narrative follows a high school student named Naomi Katagaki who encounters a future version of himself, blending elements of science fiction, romance, and time-travel paradoxes to explore the boundaries between reality and digital simulation. As a companion to the visual work, the novel serves to deepen the internal monologues and philosophical underpinnings of the film's complex plot.
The book design reflects the sleek, futuristic aesthetic of the film, often utilizing promotional imagery featuring the lead characters against the backdrop of a technologically advanced Kyoto. Nozaki, known for his cerebral and structurally ambitious writing style, aimed to translate the film’s high-concept visual spectacle into a literary format that invites readers to contemplate the nature of existence. Upon release, the work was received as a significant extension of the multimedia project, catering to fans interested in a more granular exploration of the story's intricate lore.
