Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, Volume 1, serves as the inaugural chapter of the dark fantasy manga series created by mangaka Yuji Kaku. The narrative follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a death row convict sent to a mysterious, supernatural island to retrieve the elixir of life in exchange for a pardon, blending visceral action with themes of morality and human connection.

The aesthetic of the series is characterized by Kaku's stark, intricate linework and the unsettling juxtaposition of beautiful flora with grotesque, monstrous entities. The design was influenced by Kaku’s desire to explore the tension between Buddhist iconography and surrealist horror.
