Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni

Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni, or 'On the Night the Spider Lily Blooms,' originated as a collaborative dōjin soft sound novel series produced by 07th Expansion. Written by the prolific Ryukishi07, the series was designed to explore the unsettling nature of Japanese school ghost stories, moving away from the complex mystery structures of his previous works like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni to focus on a more episodic, atmospheric anthology format.

The manga adaptation, illustrated by Rei Mitsuna, was serialized in Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine beginning in 2010. Mitsuna's visual style was selected to emphasize the eerie, melancholic aesthetic of the afterlife settings while balancing the dark, often cruel humor characteristic of Ryukishi07’s writing. The work was generally well-received by readers for its psychological depth and its ability to modernize traditional yōkai folklore within a contemporary academic setting.
