Hikari-Man

Hikari-Man is a seinen manga series authored by Hideo Yamamoto, serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits beginning in 2014. The narrative follows Hikari Shiroi, a high school student whose life is upended when he discovers that his body has begun to emit electrical currents, a condition that grants him the ability to manipulate digital technology. Emerging from Yamamoto’s penchant for exploring psychological distortion and the fringes of human identity, the work serves as a stylistic evolution from his previous long-running series, Homunculus.

The visual design of the series is heavily influenced by Yamamoto’s interest in the intersection of organic physiology and digital interfaces. The illustrations frequently feature intricate renderings of circuit-like patterns and surreal, distorted character perspectives that mirror the protagonist’s evolving relationship with his newfound powers. Upon its release, the work was noted for its unique blend of science fiction tropes and the distinct, unsettling character studies that have become a hallmark of Yamamoto's artistic career, attracting a niche audience interested in the psychological consequences of technological integration.
