Where it came from
The History of the Martin Family, documented under the identifier OXFORD:400653014, belongs to a tradition of nineteenth-century genealogical compendiums produced to solidify ancestral narratives for the British gentry. Authored by Stapleton Martin, the work reflects the Victorian preoccupation with lineage, land ownership, and the preservation of familial heritage through rigorous archival synthesis.
Stapleton Martin utilized available parish records and personal correspondence to construct a linear narrative of the family's development over several generations. The design is characteristic of Oxford-published volumes from the era, emphasizing a conservative, scholarly aesthetic that prioritized legibility and authority, aiming to serve as both a private record for descendants and a contribution to local historical studies.
