Holyland

Holyland, a seinen manga series written and illustrated by Kouji Mori, was serialized in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine between 2000 and 2008. The story follows Yuu Kamishiro, a high school outcast who finds a sense of belonging in the dangerous street-fighting scene of Tokyo. Mori drew heavily from his own experiences in martial arts and his personal observations of youth subcultures to ground the series in a raw, realistic depiction of violence and self-discovery.

The series is noted for its technical accuracy regarding boxing, judo, and wrestling techniques, often incorporating detailed explanations of moves within the narrative. The art style is stark and kinetic, effectively capturing the tension of one-on-one street combat.
