Where it came from
Honest Real Estate, or Shojiki Fudosan, began serialization in Big Comic in 2017. Written by Takeshi Natsuhara with art by Akira Otani, the series was conceived as a cynical yet educational look at the Japanese property market. It centers on a top-performing real estate agent who suddenly loses the ability to lie, forcing him to navigate the industry with unflinching, and often professionally disastrous, honesty.
The series is noted for its meticulous research, which highlights common industry tactics and consumer pitfalls. By blending dramatic narrative with practical advice on topics like building management and mortgage contracts, the creators aimed to demystify real estate transactions for the general public. It has been well-received for its social commentary, eventually inspiring a live-action television adaptation in 2022.
