How to Ride the Hero's Coattails

How to Ride the Hero's Coattails, created by the artist Dam_c, emerged from the subculture of indie web-comics and serial digital illustration projects that flourished in the early 2020s. The work is defined by a satirical take on common fantasy tropes, focusing on the peripheral characters who exist in the shadows of traditional protagonists. It functions as both a parody of adventure narratives and a commentary on the nature of supporting roles in high-stakes fiction.

The visual style utilizes a clean, expressive line art that mirrors modern web-comic sensibilities, prioritizing character interaction and comedic timing over complex world-building. Dam_c designed the volume to subvert reader expectations regarding heroic archetypes, employing a self-aware tone that resonates with audiences familiar with role-playing games and epic quest literature. Since its release, it has been noted by niche literary circles as a sharp, concise exploration of character agency.
