Hungry Joker

Hungry Joker originated as a short-lived manga series serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012. Written and illustrated by Tabata Yuuki, the series served as a foundational project that explored his interest in blending scientific concepts with supernatural shonen battle tropes. The story follows Haiiro Chiro, an eccentric scientist who possesses the ability to manipulate matter, as he navigates a world filled with experimental anomalies.

The character design and thematic direction were heavily influenced by Tabata's desire to craft a protagonist driven by intellectual curiosity rather than traditional heroic archetypes. While the series did not achieve the longevity required for a sustained run, it is frequently cited by fans and critics as an important stylistic precursor to Tabata's later international success, Black Clover.
