Where it came from
The Hyakko Art Collection ~Haruaki Kato WORKS~ serves as a comprehensive visual companion to the Hyakko manga series, which was serialized in Comic Blade beginning in 2007. Created by Haruaki Katou, the series gained recognition for its lighthearted high school comedy tropes and distinctive character designs. This volume was compiled to showcase the evolution of those designs, bringing together various promotional illustrations, cover art, and supplemental materials created during the active run of the series.
The volume functions as both a retrospective of Katou’s creative process and a curated gallery of the series' aesthetic identity. Within its pages, Katou provides insight into the visual development of the main characters and the vibrant, pastel-toned style that became synonymous with the franchise. It was received by fans as a definitive reference for the series' iconography, offering a polished look at the stylistic transition from the original manga panels to fully realized color compositions.
