Where it came from
Incomplete Tokusatsu Circuit is a manga series created by Tokumitsu Yasuyuki, a mangaka well-regarded for his niche, hobby-centric narratives. The series is deeply rooted in the otaku culture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, specifically focusing on the obsessive pursuit of tokusatsu merchandise. Yasuyuki designed the work to act as a semi-autobiographical critique and celebration of the collector's mindset, exploring the frantic search for rare special effects props and costumes that defined the era's hobbyist scene.
The art style and narrative structure prioritize a frantic, high-energy tone that mirrors the protagonist's own manic acquisition habits. Within the broader context of Yasuyuki's bibliography, the work stands out for its direct commentary on the industry surrounding Japanese science fiction television. It was received by readers as a humorous yet poignant look at the financial and emotional tolls of extreme collecting, ultimately serving as a meta-textual artifact that documents the very subculture it depicts.
