Index bibliothecae C. D. Becki. Prooemium scripsit Reinholdus Klotz

This volume serves as the printed catalog for the private library of Christian Daniel Beck, a distinguished German philologist and historian who held a professorship at the University of Leipzig. Compiled and published in the mid-19th century following his scholarly career, the index reflects the expansive breadth of a traditional European academic collection, encompassing classical literature, historical treatises, and theological texts that informed the intellectual life of the period.

The proemium, or introductory essay, was penned by Reinhold Klotz, a noted classical scholar and editor of the era who worked to preserve the legacy of Beck’s collection. Klotz's contribution provides scholarly context to the acquisition habits of his contemporary, presenting the library not merely as an accumulation of volumes, but as an essential resource for the rigorous study of antiquity and the evolution of humanities in 19th-century German academia.
