Where it came from
Infinite Stratos Black Bunny/White Bitter is a spin-off light novel volume tied to the popular Infinite Stratos franchise created by Yumizuru Izuru. The series, which originated as a light novel project in 2009, centers on a near-future world where female-exclusive powered exoskeletons have shifted the global political landscape. This particular volume was released to expand upon the character dynamics and narrative tropes established in the main series, operating within the established 'harem' and 'mecha' subgenres that defined the franchise's commercial identity.
The character designs and illustrations for this volume continue the established aesthetic of the series, characterized by a fusion of high-tech mechanical weaponry and stylized, expressive character work. The project was intended to serve as a supplementary experience for fans of the source material, leaning heavily into the romantic and comedic interactions between the protagonist and the supporting cast of pilots. While the series has often been the subject of critical discussion regarding its heavy reliance on established light novel conventions, it maintained a consistent and dedicated readership throughout its publication run.
