Ingolstädter Tagblatt: 1878, [1]

The Ingolstädter Tagblatt served as a local daily newspaper for the city of Ingolstadt in Bavaria throughout the late 19th century. This specific volume, documenting the issues from 1878, captures a period of German history defined by the aftermath of the unification of the German Empire under Bismarck. As a regional publication, it functioned as a vital record for residents, providing local municipal announcements, market reports, and summaries of national political events, reflecting the conservative and civic-minded atmosphere of a garrison city during the Gründerzeit era.

The physical production of such volumes during the 1870s relied on letterpress technology, which was the standard for high-volume journalism of the time. These bound volumes were typically commissioned by local libraries or newspaper archives to preserve the daily sheets, which were otherwise printed on ephemeral, acidic newsprint that would have quickly deteriorated. The design of the paper focused on clarity and readability, adhering to the traditional fraktur typography common in contemporary German periodicals, and it stands today as a significant primary source for researchers studying the socio-economic development of Upper Bavaria.
