Issunsaki no Yami: Sawamura Ichi Kaidan Shouhenshuu

Issunsaki no Yami: Sawamura Ichi Kaidan Shouhenshuu is a collection of horror manga short stories crafted by the artist Sawamura Ichi. Published in the early 2020s, this volume emerged from the contemporary Japanese appetite for kaidan, or traditional ghost stories, reimagined through the lens of modern psychological horror. The work serves as a showcase for Sawamura's distinct approach to suspense, characterized by minimalist paneling and an emphasis on the uncanny atmosphere surrounding everyday Japanese life.

The aesthetic of the collection leans into the stark, high-contrast imagery often associated with indie horror seinen manga. By focusing on short, punchy narratives rather than a single sprawling epic, Sawamura Ichi intended to distill the essential dread of the genre. The work has been received by enthusiasts as a notable entry in the modern horror landscape, valued primarily for its ability to cultivate a sense of lingering unease without relying heavily on gore or overt monster designs.
