Where it came from
Itsuka wa Kuma Goroshi!!, written and illustrated by Matsu Takeshi, emerged from the niche landscape of Japanese alternative manga. The title, which translates roughly to 'Someday I'll Kill the Bear!!', reflects the surreal and often gritty tone characteristic of Takeshi's storytelling style. It was produced as a serialized work, capturing the unique sensibilities of the independent manga scene during its publication period, focusing on idiosyncratic character development and unconventional narrative arcs.
The design and artistic approach of the volume favor a raw, unpolished aesthetic that complements the dark humor and existential themes inherent in the series. Matsu Takeshi utilized stark line work and bold paneling to convey the psychological tension of the protagonist’s journey. Upon its release, the volume gained a dedicated following among collectors of experimental manga, recognized for its refusal to adhere to mainstream tropes and its distinctively stark visual identity.
