The Jahresprogramm of the Städtische Realschule Erster Ordnung in Tilsit served as an annual institutional report and invitation to the school's public examinations and graduation ceremonies. These publications were common in 19th-century German secondary education, acting as official records that detailed academic performance, curriculum changes, and faculty updates. By documenting the progress of the students alongside the specific schedule for recitations and choral performances, the program functioned both as a formal invitation to the community and an instrument of bureaucratic transparency for the local education board.

These programs typically featured a scholarly article authored by a faculty member, a practice intended to showcase the intellectual rigor of the teaching staff. The design followed the austere, traditional typographic conventions of Prussian educational literature, favoring clarity and formality over ornamentation. While these documents provide invaluable sociological insight into the pedagogical priorities and disciplinary structures of the Tilsit school during the period, they were primarily ephemeral materials intended for local distribution among parents, school officials, and peers in the academic community.
