Jashin-chan Dropkick

Jashin-chan Dropkick, known in Japan as Dropkick on My Devil!, began serialization in 2012 on the Flex Comix web magazine Comic Meteor. Created by the manga artist Yukiwo, the series centers on the chaotic and often violent dynamic between a gothic lolita witch named Yurine Hanazono and the titular Jashin-chan, a serpent-bodied demon whom Yurine accidentally summons from the underworld. The work is defined by its dark humor and surreal slapstick, subverting the traditional summoning trope by focusing on the mundane and cruel reality of the two characters living together in a small apartment.

Yukiwo’s design for the characters leans heavily into the contrast between the seemingly innocent, occult-obsessed Yurine and the grotesque yet expressive Jashin-chan. The series gained significant traction for its relentless pace and commitment to its own absurd internal logic, eventually bridging the gap from a digital-first manga to a long-running multimedia franchise. While the manga remains the core of the intellectual property, its unique tone and visual characterizations have been instrumental in the success of its subsequent animation and merchandising endeavors.
