Jiro Otsu, owner of Nikopachido

Jiro Otsu, owner of Nikopachido, is a character featured in the manga series Heavenly Delusion, known in Japanese as Tengoku Daimakyo, authored and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro. The character appears within a narrative that weaves together two disparate post-apocalyptic settings, with Nikopachido serving as a distinct locale within the series' carefully crafted world. Ishiguro designed the setting to evoke a sense of uncanny familiarity, blending mundane business operations with the unsettling undertones of a ruined civilization.

The series began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in 2018. Ishiguro, already recognized for his nuanced character work in previous titles, developed this setting to explore themes of isolation and the human desire for normalcy amidst collapse. The character of Jiro Otsu and his shop were received by critics as quintessential examples of Ishiguro's ability to ground surreal scenarios in tangible, albeit strange, reality, contributing to the series' reputation for atmospheric storytelling.
