Joe Hill: Im tiefen, tiefen Wald

Im tiefen, tiefen Wald is the German-language edition of Carmen Maria Machado’s short story collection, originally published in English as Her Body and Other Parties. The work emerged from a contemporary literary movement focused on blending genre fiction tropes—particularly horror and psychological suspense—with incisive feminist critique. The stories are renowned for their surreal exploration of domestic life, bodily autonomy, and the female experience, establishing Machado as a prominent voice in modern gothic and speculative literature.

The design of this specific German edition, published under the Joe Hill imprint, emphasizes the collection's haunting and atmospheric nature. While the original English collection garnered significant critical acclaim, including a nomination for the National Book Award, this localized release serves to bring Machado's distinctive voice to a broader European audience. The presentation maintains a focus on the eerie, ethereal quality of the prose, reflecting the author's intent to unsettle readers while challenging traditional narrative structures.
