Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Blinding Darkness

Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Blinding Darkness, originally titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, was published in 2017 as a four-chapter prequel miniseries in Jump GIGA. Gege Akutami wrote and illustrated this series to establish the foundations of the Jujutsu Kaisen world, focusing on the character Yuta Okkotsu and his connection to the cursed spirit of his childhood friend. The story served as a standalone pilot that successfully introduced the series' complex power systems and dark tone, eventually leading to the creation of the main Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

The volume was later repackaged and released globally by VIZ Media, following the massive success of the core series. Akutami’s design work during this period reflects a raw, experimental approach to character dynamics and cursed energy mechanics that would eventually define the franchise. Upon its release as a compiled volume, it was well-received by fans for providing essential context for the events of the main series, offering a deeper look into the history of Jujutsu High and the tragic origin of one of its most prominent protagonists.
