Where it came from
Daitai Konna Nichijou is a series of doujinshi, or self-published works, produced by the circle Hibitoridori. These volumes originated within the vibrant fan community surrounding Kantai Collection, the popular Japanese browser game that anthropomorphizes historical naval vessels as 'kanmusu' or fleet girls. Created for distribution at doujin events like Comiket, the series captures the mundane, comedic interactions between ship girls outside of the intense combat environment of the game.
The aesthetic of Hibitoridori’s work is characterized by a soft, expressive art style that focuses on the domestic and social lives of the characters. By moving away from the tactical focus of the source material, the series explores themes of camaraderie and lighthearted slice-of-life humor. It was well-received among the fan base for its endearing character designs and ability to expand upon the personality traits of the game's expansive cast, contributing to the broader fan-driven lore of the franchise.
