Kantai Collection -KanColle- Wo-kyuu-chan wa Nakama ni Naritasou ni Kochira Wo Miteiru (doujinshi)

This doujinshi, titled 'Wo-kyuu-chan wa Nakama ni Naritasou ni Kochira Wo Miteiru,' is a fan-made publication centered on the popular Japanese browser game Kantai Collection, commonly known as KanColle. Produced by the circle Makoushi, it emerged during the height of the franchise's explosive popularity in the mid-2010s, when the anthropomorphized naval vessels, or 'kanmusu,' inspired an immense volume of independent derivative works. The title plays on the iconic 'looking at you' trope found in video games like Dragon Quest, framing the Abyssal Fleet's enigmatic Aircraft Carrier Wo-Class—affectionately nicknamed Wo-kyuu-chan—in a comedic and endearing light.

The work reflects the creative culture of Comiket and similar Japanese fan conventions, where artists frequently reinterpret the game's antagonistic forces as relatable characters. Makoushi’s design and narrative approach sought to soften the menacing aesthetic of the Abyssal ships, focusing on expressive, often humorous character interactions. As part of a vast ecosystem of fan-created literature, this piece serves as a cultural artifact of the period’s dedicated fan base, highlighting the collective desire to humanize even the most formidable enemies found within the game's mechanics.
