Where it came from
Kao dake ja Suki ni Narimasen, translated as I Won't Fall for You Just Because of Your Face, is a shoujo manga series written and illustrated by Karin Anzai. The series began serialization in the Japanese shoujo magazine Dessert in 2020. It centers on the evolving relationship between Chisato, a high school girl who prefers to keep a low profile, and Keito, a famously handsome classmate whose outer appearance masks a personality that is more complex than his peers realize.
Karin Anzai created the series with a focus on the tropes of high school romance, specifically exploring the contrast between public perception and private character. The artwork is characterized by the clean, expressive linework typical of the modern shoujo aesthetic, emphasizing the emotional internal lives of the protagonists. It has been well-received by readers of the genre for its charming pacing and the grounded chemistry between the two leads, leading to its ongoing popularity as a tankobon collection.
